LIVE at Dabney with Mystery School

Performance Overview
Step into the sonic unknown on Friday, May 30th, as Mystery School brings their evocative jazz explorations to Dabney & Co. from 8:30 PM to 11:00 PM. This powerhouse ensemble—led by saxophonist and composer Michael Hudson-Casanova—delivers a night of intricate, soul-stirring music that bridges tradition and innovation. With compositions described as “complex and nuanced, inventive and accessible” (Hrayr Attarian, All About Jazz), Mystery School invites you to experience modern jazz at its most creative and inspired.

Meet the Band
At the helm is Michael Hudson-Casanova, whose saxophone work channels the cerebral fire of David Binney and the emotive lyricism of Wayne Shorter. His compositional voice draws from a lineage of greats like Keith Jarrett and Kenny Wheeler, crafting pieces that are both reflective and kinetic.

Meghan Stagl brings depth and finesse on piano, weaving harmonic textures with precision and grace.
On bass, Daniel Thatcher anchors the ensemble with intuitive grooves and rich, resonant tone.
Gustavo Cortiñas on drums provides rhythmic shape and drive, fluidly navigating dynamic shifts with power and sensitivity.

All four are vital voices in the Chicago jazz scene, bringing that city's creative spirit straight to Kalamazoo.

Craft Cocktails & More
